Larry and Nan Lawrence

Nan and Larry started attending Coastlands in November of 1997 when the church met in a storefront at a shopping center on Euclid Avenue in VA Beach.  They have been faithfully serving as elders here and are involved in many ministries including Greeters Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Sunday Service Logistics, Prayer Team as well as the leading of a LIFE Group.
Nan and Larry grew up in the same small town of Koppel, Pennsylvania.  They went to some of the same small schools, and attended a small Methodist Church where they were married almost 38 years ago.  They are a great example of lifelong love and are committed to forming strong marriages in our community.
Larry accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior in early 1970 after trying to disprove God to a fellow co-worker.  Nan, however, did not come to the Lord until 7 years later when she was dealing with the loss of both of her parents.  When asked to describe what Christianity is to them, they responded, “Christianity is life, not religion or ritual or hype.”  It is like Jesus said, ‘I came that you might have life and have it abundantly.’  It is not wealth or perfection or piety but knowing that God has your back.  He is there with you day by day, the good times and the bad.”
Nan is enjoying retirement after working 25 years in customer service for a large retail store.  She enjoys home decorating, tinkering in the garden and reading (She has read the Bible through every year for the past 3 years).  Larry enjoys art, stained glass, reading, golf and football.  “GO STEELERS!”
