October 2017: Why We do CAST

Jesus encourages us in his parables and his teachings to be mindful of the least, the last and the lost. Jesus said, If you have done it to the least of these you have done it unto me (Matt 25:40).  He also said, The last will indeed be first (Matt 20:16) and He reminds us to pursue the lost in Luke 15 with the lost sheep and the lost coin.  The Kingdom of heaven is upside down in comparison to the world’s view which promotes the greatest, the first, and the secure.

CAST (Chesapeake Area Shelter Team)  provides opportunity for our church to put into practice the words of Jesus and the principles by which He lived.

For one week, we host those who have been often pushed off or forgotten by society and we bring them face to face with people who are being the hands and feet of Jesus.  We serve food and provide shelter from the cold while including our guests in our family here at Coastlands.  Many times we are fearful about venturing out of our comfort zone and going to new areas but this is an opportunity where they will be coming to us and we want to represent Christ.
